## Article

This article explains what customers see after they upload an image to AI Sign Designer. It shows how to change and translate this text. It explains the Save design form, which customers can use to send their contact details while they wait. It also explains what happens when a design fails. It is for merchants who already use AI Sign Designer.

## Before you start

- Turn on AI Sign Designer for the customiser. Read [How to Enable AI Sign Designer](../../ai-sign-designer/16084580-how-to-enable-ai-sign-designer/).

- Create a form for this customiser with a File Upload field and a required Email field. If you do not have such a form, select **Create a fallback form** in **Set up AI Sign Designer**. Sign Customiser creates the form for you. Read [Custom Design Forms](../../ai-sign-designer/custom-design-forms/).

- For credits, supported sign types and generated files, read the [AI Sign Designer Guide](../../ai-sign-designer/ai-sign-designer-guide/).

## What customers see while the design builds

The customer starts in the upload step, shown below. The build screen comes after this step.

![The customer customiser upload step with the drop zone 'Drop an image here or tap to browse' in the sidebar and the preview area](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/2cebe622c54728314382633345de4704ea19b12812aa1155c1934ca932d3f28f.png)

After the customer uploads an image, the build screen shows a drawing of a sign and a progress bar. The title and message change as the design progresses.

<table role="presentation" style="border: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-radius: 6px; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0;"><tbody><tr><td style="padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Stage</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Title</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Message</b></p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">1</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Reading your image</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Finding the shapes and words to keep.</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">2</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Designing your sign</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Turning your image into clean lines and shapes.</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">3</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Refining your design</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Detailed images take a little longer.</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">4</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Putting it all together</p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Your design is ready.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Stage 3 shows when the design has taken 60 seconds or more. After stage 4, the customiser shows the finished design. If the design fails our automatic manufacturing check, the customer sees the **Design review required** state instead, as described below.

On screens that are 768 px wide or wider, the text **Your image is saved. Keep this page open.** shows below the progress bar. Smaller screens do not show this text. After the customer sends the Save design form, the text changes to **Your design is saved. You can close this page.** This text shows on all screen sizes.

You can change and translate most of the text on the build screen, including the text of each stage. One message stays in English.

## Change and translate the build screen text

1. In the merchant admin, select **Customisers**.

2. Select the name of your customiser.

3. Under **Core Setup**, select **Custom Designs**.

4. Go to the **Language** section.

5. Change the fields that you need.

6. Select **Save**.

The same fields are in **Settings → Languages**. Use that page to translate them. Some upload fields have other names on that page: **Processing title**, **Processing description**, **Failed title**, **Failed description**, **Try another**, **Failed upload area (desktop)** and **Failed upload area (mobile)**. Read [Languages in Sign Customiser](../../customise/15966977-languages-in-sign-customiser/). If you do not change a field, customers see the English text that this article shows.

These fields control the build screen and the upload area:

<table role="presentation" style="border: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-radius: 6px; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0;"><tbody><tr><td style="padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Field</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>What it changes</b></p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Upload pending title</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">The title in stage 1. The **Language** section has more fields for the upload area and for failures. Examples are **Accepted file types text**, **Image optimisation text**, **Too many uploads title**, **Design review title**, **No AI credits title** and the PDF messages. Each field shows its English default text. The Save design form has its own fields. Read "Change the saved text" below.

Some failures have a specific message. The customiser shows that message in place of **Upload failed description**. The **Language** section has fields for many of these messages, for example the PDF messages and **Unsupported file type message**.

One message stays in English: **The AI designer is not ready. Reload the customiser and try again.** It shows only when the customiser has not loaded its text.

## Let customers save their design

A design can take up to four minutes. Some customers leave before the design is ready. With the **Save design form**, the customer can send contact details while the design builds. Sign Customiser links the request to the design of the customer. The customer can then close the page. You get the contact details and the design.

### Select the Save design form

1. Open **Custom Designs**, as shown above.

2. Make sure that **AI Sign Designer (recommended)** is selected under **Custom designs**.

3. Find **Save design form**. It is below **Send designs that cannot be made automatically to the fallback form**.

4. Select a form.

5. Select **Save**.

The list shows only the forms that have the **Form Quote Type** **Custom designs** and a required Email field. If a form that you selected earlier cannot be used now, it shows **(cannot use)**. A deleted form shows **Deleted form**. Select a different form.

The default is **None**. Customers do not see a Save design form until you select one. Your plan must include custom design forms.

You can use the same form as the fallback form and as the Save design form. The Save design form does not show File Upload fields. Sign Customiser attaches the image of the customer to the request. A required File Upload field does not stop the customer.

The title of the form is the **Label** of the form. The text below the title is the description of the form. To change them, edit the form in **Features → Forms**. The Save design form does not go to the page in **After submission**. The customer stays in the customiser.

### What the customer sees

The form shows in the sidebar, below the upload step. It shows after Sign Customiser accepts the image, while the design builds.

![The build screen at stage 1 and, in the sidebar, the Save my design form with Email and WhatsApp fields below the Upload your logo step.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/fc1fec63574dcf16a0976e149484ba881a6697cfd627ccbd0125a7a413ae6497.png)

When the customer sends the form, the form changes to **Your design is saved** and **We have your details. We will contact you about your design.** The text below the progress bar changes to **Your design is saved. You can close this page.** If a value is not correct, for example an email address, the error shows in the form.

![On a phone, the saved form with a check mark below the Upload your logo step. The build screen says Your design is saved. You can close this page.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/d4a1223d62afe50b34af7f7d90d5d8be4318b5a164d1167fe010cdad2f8ca2c4.png)

On a desktop screen, the form stays below the upload step when the design is ready to buy, unless the fallback form shows. The button below the price shows as usual. If your Store has no AI credits left, the form shows without the upload step. If the customer did not send the form, the empty form shows.

![The customiser on a desktop screen after the design is ready. The empty Save my design form is below the upload area in the sidebar, above the tube colours, the price and the Finish button.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/6747cf291377343510bee97dc24fdfbec95a6167f8d4c01656beb7e0a6c09aa2.png)

If the customer sent the form, **Save this version** shows below the saved message after the design is ready. It does not show while the design builds. This button opens the form again with the email address that the customer sent last time. When the customer sends it, you get a new request with the current design. **Save this version** does not show for a design that needs a design review.

![The saved form with Your design is saved, the saved message and the Save this version button.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/f187ffe672484055e588d90c085c5bb7b888b7c4591a67dd3a054ec9c6387db4.png)

On a phone, the form also shows below the upload step. In some mobile layouts, the upload step closes when the design is ready. The form then shows at the top of the sidebar.

![On a phone, the build screen above the Upload your logo step and the empty Save my design form.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/14819fd729f19e2b68fda5da91c4f10e62eac0d2feeb30628fc681d0a98909b2.png)

![On a phone, the finished design with the Save my design form at the top of the sidebar, above the price and the Finish button.](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/60e44734470b9788453768fe6fef0b1587491d958965504db664e6fd4caa43eb.png)

The form does not show in these conditions:

- Before Sign Customiser accepts the image, or when the upload fails.

- When your Store has no AI credits to start a design.

- When the fallback form shows. The customer does not see the two forms at the same time.

- For a design that the customer opens from a share link.

After the customer sends the Save design form, the fallback form does not open for this design. This is also true when the design fails, times out or is refused. Your email gives the result.

If the customer sent the form and then uploads a different image, the form shows again for the new design.

### What you receive

Each saved design is a request in **Quotes**. The request has an **AI design** card. The card shows the original artwork, the generated artwork and a **View AI design file** link. A badge shows **Saved during the design process** or **Saved after the end of the design process**.

Sign Customiser sends one email for each request to the **Receiver Email** of the form. If the design is not final, the email waits until the AI makes the design or fails. It waits for a maximum of 10 minutes. If the design is already final when the customer sends the form, the email goes immediately.

The email contains:

- The contact details from the form.

- The status of the design. For example, the AI made a design, the design needs a design review, or the AI could not make a design.

- A link to the original upload.

- A link to the generated design (SVG), if the AI made a design.

- A link to the AI design file in the merchant admin.

When the customer sends the form after the design is ready, the email also contains the options, the price and the preview images. The email shows the price also when **Show suggested price** is off. If your plan includes sharing and **Share Sign Location** is not **Disabled**, the email also has a link that opens the saved design.

The customer confirmation email and the `form:submitted` webhook do not wait. They go immediately.

A saved design uses no more AI credits. **Auto-process uploaded images with AI** does not process the image again.

### Change the colours of the form

1. Open your customiser.

2. In the customiser menu, select **Theme Colours**.

3. Find **Save my design form**.

4. Set **Background**, **Border**, **Heading Text**, **Body Text**, **Button Background** and **Button Text**.

5. Select **Submit**.

If a colour is empty, the form uses the matching theme colour. The empty field shows that colour. These colours change only the Save design form. They do not change the fallback form or the Quote Mode form.

When you select a Save design form, the live preview on the **Theme Colours** and **Custom Designs** pages shows the form. The form in the live preview does not send requests.

### Change the saved text

Use these fields in the **Language** section of **Custom Designs**, or in **Settings → Languages**:

<table role="presentation" style="border: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-radius: 6px; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0;"><tbody><tr><td style="padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Field</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Default</b></p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Save design form: saved title</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Your design is saved</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Save design form: saved message</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">We have your details. We will contact you about your design.</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Save design form: save again button</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Save this version</p></td></tr><tr><td style="border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Build screen note after a save</b></p></td><td style="border-left: 1px solid #c6c9c0; border-top: 1px solid #c6c9c0; padding: 8px;"><p class="no-margin">Your design is saved. You can close this page.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Send refused designs to your fallback form

Sometimes our checks refuse a design because it cannot be made automatically. Sign Customiser then opens your fallback form. The customer's image is attached to the form.

When you select **AI Sign Designer (recommended)** under **Custom designs**, Sign Customiser selects a fallback form for you. If the saved form has a required Email field and a File Upload field, it stays selected. If not, Sign Customiser selects the first form that has these fields. You can select a different form.

1. Open **Custom Designs**, as shown above.

2. Under **Custom designs**, select **AI Sign Designer (recommended)**.

3. In **Set up AI Sign Designer**, find **Fallback form**.

4. Select a form that has a required Email field and a File Upload field.

5. Make sure that **Send designs that cannot be made automatically to the fallback form** is selected.

6. Select **Save**.

![The Set up AI Sign Designer box with the Fallback form line](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/dd20eda1c239755aeb5f9fffa9d7819698cc18bd244e16bf84809245af76402b.png)

The **Set up AI Sign Designer** card shows the status of the **Fallback form** line. The status text is one of these:

- Ready: "When AI Sign Designer cannot make a design, customers send you their image with this form."

- Nothing selected: "Select a form with a required Email field and a File Upload field."

- Saved form deleted: the option shows **Deleted form**. The text is "The selected form does not exist. Select a different form."

- Saved form lacks a field: the option shows the form name followed by **(cannot use)**. The text is "This form needs a File Upload field.", "This form needs a required Email field." or "This form needs a required Email field and a File Upload field."

Forms that do not have both fields do not show in the list. The exception is a form that you chose earlier. That form shows **(cannot use)**. Select a different form.

If no form has both fields, the line shows **Create a fallback form**. Sign Customiser creates a form named **AI Sign Designer Form**. The form has these fields: Email, First Name, Last Name, Phone, Project Description and Upload Your Logo. It also selects the new form. If you have other forms, the line also shows **Edit my forms**.

This setting is on by default. We also turned it on for customisers that existed before it became the default.

When this setting is on, a fallback form is selected, and the AI run ends with no usable design, the customer sees **We can't make this one automatically**. The message is **Send it to us with the form and we'll design it for you.** Your fallback form opens in the sidebar, with the image attached. The customer can also select **Try again** or **Use another image**.

When the AI makes a design but the design fails our automatic manufacturing check, the fallback form also opens with the image attached. The customer sees **Design review required** at the File Upload field in the form. To change this text, use **Design review title**. **Design review message** shows only on the **Design review required** card in the upload area, when no fallback form opens. It does not show when the upload area shows an error message.

The **Refused design title** and **Refused design message** fields do not change this text.

Sometimes every AI provider declines an image. The customer then sees a different message. The default is **Our AI can't recreate this image, often because of copyright. Try another image, or send it using the form below.** To change it, use **Provider refusal message**. When no fallback form is available, the customer sees the text in **Provider refusal message without a form**.

Each form that a customer sends appears in **Quotes**. In the merchant admin sidebar, select **Quotes** under **Manage**.

![The Quotes page with the text 'Quote requests and form submissions appear here. This includes AI Sign Designer fallback requests.'](/help/intercom-docs/help-centre-images/f7821783b4ce9a07d983379b2f17c6acd4f2d2abf7885f81f796f04e77487121.png)

### Turn off the refused design form

To stop this behaviour, clear **Send designs that cannot be made automatically to the fallback form**. The customer then sees the failed screen with **Try again** and **Use another image**. When a design fails the manufacturing check, the customer sees a **Design review required** card instead. It has the **Try another image button** text (**Try another image** by default), and **Try Again** when the customiser still has the image.

If you do not select a fallback form, this setting has no effect.

## When a design fails for another reason

A design can also fail because of an error or a time-out. A design that does not finish in four minutes fails. The customer then sees the failed screen. It has these buttons:

- **Try again** - Uses the same image again.

- **Use another image** - Lets the customer upload a different image.

- **Submit as a form request** - Opens your fallback form with the image attached.

The **Submit as a form request** button shows only when you select a fallback form with a File Upload field. To change the button text, use **Form request button** in the **Language** section. While AI credits remain, the form does not open by itself for these failures.

## Limits

- **Custom Designs** has no field for the text on the **Try again** button. To change it, use **Retry Button** in **Settings → Languages**. This field also changes other retry buttons in the customiser.

- One message stays in English: **The AI designer is not ready. Reload the customiser and try again.**

- A refused design goes to your fallback form only when the form has a File Upload field.

- The **Fallback form** list shows only forms that have a required Email field and a File Upload field. A saved form that lacks a field shows **(cannot use)**. Select a different form.

- The **Save design form** list shows only **Custom designs** forms that have a required Email field.

- The Save design form does not show File Upload fields.

- The email for a saved design waits for a maximum of 10 minutes.
