Change the instructions on the Custom Design screen

Copy page

Change the main heading and step text shown beside a form on the customer-facing Custom tab, and find the right settings when you are currently editing the form itself.

Last updated:

Use the Steps section to change the instructions shown on the customer-facing Custom tab. You can edit the main heading and each step’s heading and description.

Custom Designs and Forms are separate pages.

Use Core Setup → Custom Designs for the explanatory steps. Use Features → Forms for the form’s label, description, submit button, fields, receiver email, and after-submission action.

Change the instructions on the Custom Design screen

  1. Open the Sign Customiser admin:

    • Universal users: Go to Home in your account.

    • Shopify users: In the Shopify admin, select Apps in the sidebar, then select Sign Customiser.

  2. Select Customisers, then open the customiser you want to edit.

  3. In the customiser sidebar, go to Core Setup → Custom Designs.

  4. In the Custom designs card, check which option is selected.

    • If AI Sign Designer (recommended) is selected, the page does not show Steps. To edit the steps, select Embed a form or Link to another page. Selecting either option turns off AI Sign Designer for this customiser.

  5. Select Embed a form or Link to another page.

    • If you select Link to another page, go to Display and select Custom Design Screen with Additional Instructions. The Link Only (Placed at top of options side bar) choice has no Steps.

  7. Change Custom Design Header to edit the main heading above the steps.

  8. Click a step to edit its Header and Description. To create a step, click Add Step. You can add up to six steps.

  9. Click Save in the step window, then click Save at the bottom of the Custom Design page.

If you are on the form editor

Fields such as Label, Description, Submit Button Label, Fields, and Receiver Email mean you are on Features → Forms. Return to Core Setup → Custom Designs to change the steps.

What can be changed?

  • Custom Design Header controls the heading above all the steps.

  • Each step’s Header controls wording such as “Submission” or “Quote”.

  • Each step’s Description controls the text below its heading.

  • Step 1, Step 2, and similar labels in the admin show each item’s position. They are automatic and do not appear on the customer-facing Custom screen.

Change the text beside the Custom Design button

Use the Labels for links section to change the sidebar text on the Custom tab. This section is for Link to another page with Custom Design Screen with Additional Instructions. It has these fields:

  • Custom Design Text is the line above the button. The default is “To Submit a Custom Design, please click on the button below”.

  • Custom Design Button Label is the text on the button. The default is “Submit Custom Design”.

  • Phrase to Link back to Text Customiser is the link that takes the shopper back to the text editor. The default is “Got a text sign? Customise now”.

For Embed a form, Labels for links has two fields: Phrase to show custom design form (mobile only) and Phrase to Link back to Text Customiser.

When shoppers do not see the steps

Shoppers do not see the steps in these cases:

  • AI Sign Designer (recommended) is selected. The exception is when the theme block’s Initial Screen is set to Custom Design, and the customiser has at least one custom design form that shoppers can use. The steps then show on the opening screen, except on a phone or tablet where Initial Selection Screen is set to Show. When the shopper selects the Custom switch again, the AI Designer opens if the Store has AI credits. On a phone or tablet where Initial Selection Screen is set to Show, the steps can also show after a shopper selects Custom on that first screen.

  • Steps is not available for Link Only (Placed at top of options side bar), so the Custom tab does not show them. The Initial Screen exception above can still show saved steps on the opening screen, except on a phone or tablet where Initial Selection Screen is set to Show.

  • The step list is empty.

  • A shopper attaches an accepted file (image, PDF or EPS) on the Custom tab. The steps hide, and the file is shown large in the preview area. The steps show again when the shopper removes the last accepted file.
