Create Shopify discounts for custom sign products

For most Shopify stores, scope an Amount off products discount to Sign Customiser Products or to a collection named after one of your customisers. Sign Customiser adds each new sign to the right collections during product creation, so eligible automatic discounts and discount codes work on the shopper’s first attempt.

Choose which signs receive the discount

• Every generated sign: select Sign Customiser Products.

• One customiser: select the collection with the same name as that customiser.

• Several customisers: select each named customiser collection in the same discount.

Sign Customiser creates the store-wide collection when the Shopify integration is prepared. It creates a customiser’s named collection when that customiser generates its first product. If the named collection is not listed yet, generate the first sign, then return to the discount.

Sign Customiser names both collections, and links straight to them in your Shopify admin, on each customiser’s Settings → Discounts page.

Set up an automatic discount

1. In Shopify admin, go to Discounts and select Create discount.

2. Choose Amount off products, then choose Automatic discount as the method.

3. Set the discount value, requirements, combinations and dates.

4. Under Applies to, choose Specific collections and select the managed collection or collections you need.

5. Save the discount, then add a newly generated sign to the cart. Shopify calculates the discount on the first cart read and at checkout. The exact cart-page display depends on the store theme.

Set up a discount code

1. In Shopify admin, create an Amount off products discount.

2. Choose Discount code as the method.

3. Under Applies to, choose Specific collections and select Sign Customiser Products or the named customiser collections you need.

4. Save the discount. The code can apply on its first submission because the new product already belongs to the selected collection when Shopify accepts it into the cart.

Use All products only when it fits the offer

All products is the fallback for Shopify Starter and Retail plans, where app-managed collections are unavailable. It also fits a promotion that should cover the whole store. On other plans, use the managed collections when the discount should cover generated signs without affecting unrelated products.

Avoid the older targeting methods

• Specific products: every sign creates a new product, so a saved list cannot cover future signs. Shopify also caps this entitlement at 100 selected products.

• Merchant-built smart collections: Shopify evaluates product-type and tag rules asynchronously. New signs took 32–39 seconds to join in our checks, and Shopify documents no maximum delay. A discount scoped this way can miss the shopper’s first cart or checkout attempt.

Keep the built-in price discount separate

Sign Customiser’s built-in price discount changes the price shown while the shopper designs a sign, for that one customiser. Shopify’s automatic discounts and discount codes start in the cart and carry through checkout.

The built-in price discount substitutes the generated product price first. Shopify then calculates an eligible product discount against that lower price. In our verified test, an automatic product discount and a product discount code did not compound with each other. Shopify applied the better eligible product discount.

If the Shopify discount does not apply

• Confirm the discount is an Amount off products discount and that Applies to includes the correct managed collection.

• Check the discount’s dates, minimum requirements, usage limits and combinations in Shopify.

• Test with a newly generated sign. Editing an older discount does not add products to a Specific products list.

• If someone deleted a managed collection, Sign Customiser creates a replacement. Shopify does not move an existing discount to the replacement, so select the new collection in the discount.
