Sign Components Overview
Overview of Sign Components — the building blocks that define the visual and structural makeup of your signs
Last updated:
Sign Components are the building blocks of your signs. They control the materials, colours and prices of the sign. The parts of a sign include the face, the sides, the trim and the lighting.
Sign Components is a section of the Customiser Menu in your customiser admin. The admin content area is the part of the page that shows your customiser admin, without the main navigation. If the admin content area is 1040 px wide or more, the menu is on the left and has the heading Customiser Menu. If it is 799 px to 1039 px wide, the menu is on the left with no Customiser Menu heading. If it is less than 799 px wide, select Menu to open the menu. The components that you see depend on the type of customiser.
This screenshot shows the Sign Components section for a neon customiser.

Components by Customiser Type
Channel Letter Customisers
Channel letter customisers use Letter Types. Each Letter Type has its own letter parts. An example of a Letter Type is “3D Illuminated Letters”. These are the default letter part labels: Face / Front Lit, Side, Trim and Back Lit. Each letter part can have its own colours and materials. For details, see Letter Parts and Letter Types.
Channel letter customisers also have Backboards, Mountings, Additional Input Options and Icons.

Lightbox Customisers
Lightbox customisers use Lightbox Types. Each Lightbox Type has a shape, Rectangle / Square or Circle. Each Lightbox Type also has its own list of Sides. These are the parts in the list: Face, Back, Border, Internal Light, Top, Bottom, Left, Right and Side. Top, Bottom, Left and Right apply to box lightboxes. Side applies to circular lightboxes.
Each part can have its own colours and materials. For details, see Lightbox Types. Lightbox customisers also have Mountings and Additional Input Options.
Neon Customisers
Neon customisers have these components:
-
Tube Colours: the colour of the neon tube
-
UV Colours: the ultraviolet colour options
-
Materials: the material options for neon signs
-
Jackets: the jacket options for neon signs
Neon customisers also have Backboards, Mountings, Additional Input Options and Icons.
Cut-Out Metal Customisers
Cut-out metal customisers use Panels instead of Backboards. A panel is a shape, for example a rectangle, a circle, a plaque or a banner.
-
Panels: the panel shapes that customers can choose. The Panel Colours table is on the same page. It holds the panel finishes, for example Raw steel or Black powder coat. These names are demo defaults. You can change them.
-
Mountings: the same mounting options as other sign types
-
Additional Input Options: extra customer inputs, for example an outdoor clear coat toggle
-
Backlights: the LED backlight colours, with an optional None choice for signs without lighting
-
Icons: the icon libraries
The Customiser Menu for a cut-out metal customiser has no Materials item.
The customer types the design in the Text tab. Then the customer chooses a panel shape and a panel colour. You can change this order in Sort Option Order. If the admin content area is 1040 px wide or more, it is in the Settings section of the Customiser Menu. If it is narrower, it is in the Sign Components section. The Custom tab depends on your Custom Designs setting in Core Setup. For sign types that support the AI sign designer, select AI Sign Designer (recommended) under Custom designs. This option is grey when your plan does not include AI Sign Designer, or when the customiser uses a pricing model that does not support it. The help text under the option gives the reason. The Custom tab then shows the AI sign designer. The option Embed a form shows a form that you build. The option Link to another page sends customers to a page that you choose. With Off, there is no Custom tab.

To offer a sign with no lighting, open Backlights. Turn on Allow no backlight. This adds None before the backlight colours. Turn on Default to none to load the sign with no backlight selected. You can also change the label that customers see. Leave the label blank to use None. Then select Save.
When a customer chooses None, the preview shows no backlight glow. The saved sign has no backlight colour.
Braille Customisers
Braille customisers have these components:
-
Tactile text styles: the raised text styles that customers can choose
-
Plates: the plate options. The Plate Colours & Materials table is on the same page.
-
Braille settings: the Braille table, whether the Braille dots use the text colour, and the option to turn off the popup for text that the system cannot translate
-
Mountings, Additional Input Options and Icons
For more details, see Braille Signs.
Stencil Customisers
Stencil customisers use Sheets instead of Backboards. The Sheet Materials table is on the same page. Stencil customisers also have Mountings, Additional Input Options and Icons.
How Sign Components Relate to Pricing
Sign Components add a second layer of pricing on top of your base price:
-
Base pricing: set in Core Setup → Pricing. The pricing model sets the basis. Simple Letter uses pricing tiers. It prices by the number of characters and the number of lines. Advanced Letter prices by material length. Frame Fit prices by area. See Pricing and Sizing - Model Overview.
-
Component pricing: set in each Letter Type, Lightbox Type, neon Material, Backboard Colour, Panel Colour, Plate Colour or Sheet Material. You can set prices for specific materials and colours.
-
Mounting fees: optional extra costs set under Mountings.
Where to go next: Read the article for your customiser type. Use Letter Parts for channel letters, Lightbox Types for lightboxes, Braille Signs for Braille signs, Backboards for backboard options, or Mountings for mounting fees.
