Getting Started with the Simple Letter Model
Last updated:
The Simple Letter pricing model is for merchants who sell signs in standard widths or heights with simple pricing (for example 40 cm, 60 cm and 80 cm). You set prices by size, character count, and number of lines.
If you need more flexible pricing and dynamic size scaling, see the Advanced Letter pricing model.
How Simple Letter Pricing Works
The Simple Letter pricing model has preset sizes. Each size has a fixed width or a fixed height.
For each size, you set these options in the size form. To open it, click Add Size on the Sizes screen.
-
Size Strategy - Choose Fixed Width - Height scales dynamically or Fixed Height - Width scales dynamically. With the first, you set the width and the height changes to fit. With the second, you set the height and the width changes to fit.
-
Width, Letter height, or Height per line - The field that you fill in depends on the Size Strategy. A size with fixed width has a Width field. A size with fixed height has one height field: Letter height or Height per line. Multi-line height measurement sets which one it is. Each label ends with the unit that your Store uses, for example Width (centimetres) or Width (inches).
-
Maximum lines of text for this size - The most lines of text that the size allows.
-
Minimum Text Characters - The fewest characters that the whole sign must have.
-
Maximum Text Characters per line - The most characters that each line can have.
To sell by letter height, choose Fixed Height - Width scales dynamically as the Size Strategy. Then choose Letter height. Customers see the overall height of the sign. This height includes the spacing between lines. For more information, see Sizes – Simple Letter Model.
A size has no price. You set prices on the Pricing screen. The price of a sign depends on its size, character count, line count, and font.
A size has no font Line Height setting. A size with fixed height sets its height in the size form instead: Height per line or Letter height, depending on Multi-line height measurement. You set the line height on each font, in the Font Style section. Choose Normal (Default) or Specific Line Height.
Important Notes
-
Each size keeps its fixed width or height, whatever the character count. If the text is longer than a size allows, the app can switch the customer to a size that allows more. To stop this, turn on Prevent size automatically switching up on the Sizes screen.
-
You cannot fix both width and height for each size. For example, “Happy Anniversary” and “Mr & Mrs Doe” can both be 40 cm high. They cannot both be 40 cm wide, because one has more characters than the other.
-
If you need both width and height fixed for each size, see the Frame Fit model.

Step 1: Prepare Your Sizing and Pricing Information
Before you set up your customiser, collect your sizing and pricing details. The guide Request Essential Information – Simple Letter Model has a link to a sample sheet in Google Sheets. It also shows how to ask your supplier for the information.
Step 2: Configure the App Settings
When your data is ready, add it to the app. For each step, go to Customisers and select your customiser. Then open Core Setup in the Customiser Menu.
The setup has three steps:
-
Go to Core Setup > Sizes. Click Add Size to create a size. Set the size options and limits.

-
Go to Core Setup > Pricing. Click Add Pricing. Set the pricing rules for each size. The rules use the character count and the number of lines.

-
Go to Core Setup > Fonts. Upload your fonts. Assign each font to a pricing rule. The Line Height column shows the line height of each font.

These are the core steps to get started with Simple Letter pricing.
