Set the product title and main product image

Use this guide to set the Product Title and the Main Product Image for a customiser. The cart and the order use a product image of the sign. Your Main Product Image is the background of that product image, unless another background applies (see “Which image the cart uses”). This image does not change the background behind the sign in the visualiser. To change that background, use the Scene Editor.

Steps to set the product title and main product image

1. Go to the Sign Customiser admin for your Store.

   • Universal users: Go to Home in your account.

   • Shopify users: Open the app from the Apps page in your Shopify admin.

2. Click Customisers in the menu.

3. Select the customiser that you want to edit.

4. In the left-hand menu, go to Settings → Product.

5. In the Product image and title card, enter a Product Title.

   • The customiser puts this text before the sign text of the customer. For example, “Custom Sign:” and “I Love Signs” give “Custom Sign: I Love Signs”.

   • The customiser uses the first 15 characters of the sign text. A wide character, such as a Chinese character or an emoji, counts as two characters. If the sign text is longer than this limit, the customiser adds three dots (…) after the text that it keeps.

   • If you leave the field blank, the customiser uses “Custom Sign:”. For neon signs, it uses “Custom Neon:”.

6. Under Main Product Image, click Add image and select your image. If an image is already set, remove it first. The image must meet these limits:

   • The file must not exceed 0.1 MB (104,857 bytes). The admin hint calls this limit “100kb”.

   • The image is 3840px by 3840px or less.

   • You can add one image only.

   • To meet these limits, reduce the image dimensions and optimise the image.

7. Click Save.

The admin hint shows a default dimension of 1000px wide x 1000px high. This is not a limit.

If the image is too large, or the admin cannot read it, the admin shows an error. Remove the image, select a different image, and click Save again.

Which image the cart uses

The customiser chooses the image for the cart and the order in this order:

1. The scene background that the customer selected. The customiser uses it only when Use the selected background in the product image is on and your customiser meets its conditions. If the selected background is the default blue/gray background image, the cart uses the flat visualisation background colour and no image, so steps 2 and 3 do not apply.

2. Your Main Product Image.

3. A demonstration image, if you did not set a Main Product Image.

To find Use the selected background in the product image, go to Features → Scene Editor - Background Images. The check box is under Visualiser Scaling. It needs Scale visualisation with size to be on. It needs Drag, Scale, and Rotate to be off.

This option does not apply to backgrounds that customers upload. It does not apply to Lightbox customisers. The check box can look available for a Lightbox customiser, but it has no effect. A Lightbox customiser uses the Main Product Image, or the demonstration image if you did not set one.

Change the visualiser background

The visualiser is the preview that customers see when they design their sign. To manage its background images, go to Features → Scene Editor - Background Images. The Scene Editor article explains the background image and scaling settings.
