Letter Parts
Configure letter parts (Face / Front Lit, Side, Trim, Back Lit) with colours, materials, and pricing for channel letter types
Last updated:
Letter parts are the components of a channel letter type: Face / Front Lit, Side, Trim, and Back Lit. Each part has its own colours and materials. Each colour or material can have its own price. You decide what the customer can select and what each choice costs.
Letter parts are inside each Letter Type. In the menu, open Sign Components. Then click Letter Types.
Lightbox equivalent: For a lightbox customiser, use Lightbox Types under Sign Components. A lightbox type has parts in a card named Sides. It has no letter parts. A rectangle lightbox has these parts: Face, Back, Left, Right, Top, Bottom, Border, and Internal Light. A circle lightbox has these parts: Face, Back, Side, Border, and Internal Light. For more information, see the Lightbox Types article.
What Are Letter Parts?
Each Letter Type has these parts:
-
Face / Front Lit — the front surface of the letter that the customer sees head-on
-
Side — the return (the edge) of the letter, which gives it depth
-
Trim — an outline around the edge of the letter
-
Back Lit — the backlit glow behind the letter
Face / Front Lit is always on. You cannot switch it off. You can switch Side, Trim, and Back Lit on or off for each Letter Type. These three parts are off on a new Letter Type.
When two or more active parts each have at least one colour or material, the customer sees each of these parts as a card. The cards are under a heading, which is Choose your letter colours by default. A card shows the Title of the part if you set one. If you set no Title, it shows the name of the part.

When only one active part has a colour or material, the customer sees one section with the Title or name of that part. This section has no card and no colour heading. A new Letter Type has only Face / Front Lit on. The customer sees this view after you add a colour or material to Face / Front Lit, and until you switch on more parts and add colours to them. The customer does not see an active part that has no colour or material.
How to Configure Letter Parts

-
Open the customiser that you want to edit.
-
In the menu, open Sign Components. Then click Letter Types.
-
Click the Letter Type that you want to configure, for example “3D Illuminated Acrylic”.
-
To make a new Letter Type, click Add letter type. Enter a Label and click Save. You must save a new Letter Type before you can open its parts.
-
In the Letter parts card, use the switches in the Active column. Switch Side, Trim, and Back Lit on or off. The switch for Face / Front Lit stays on.
-
Click Save on the Letter Type page.
-
An active part shows Needs setup until it has one colour or material. Click the part to add them.
-
On the page of the part, set up these cards:
-
A settings card with the name of the part, for example Side Settings. Use the Title and Description fields. The customer sees this text.
-
A textures card with the name of the part, for example Side Textures. This card lists the colours and materials of the part. Click Add texture to add one.
-
Colour heading: the heading and text above the colour cards in the customiser. All parts use the same heading. The customer sees the heading only when two or more parts show. Clear both fields to hide the heading.
-
-
Click Save.
Face: light source
The Face part has a Light Source Settings card. Tick Acts as light source (Enable Front lit). The customiser then shows the face colour with a glow. For more information, see Front-lit and back-lit channel letters.
Optional letter parts
Side, Trim, and Back Lit have an Optional Letter Part card. Face does not have this card.
-
Tick Is this letter part optional? The customer can then remove the part from the sign.
-
Tick Default to none if the part must not be selected when the customiser loads.
-
In Label to remove the letter part, enter the text for the choice that removes the part. The default text is “None”.
Letter Part Pricing
You set a price on each colour or material. You do not set a price on the letter part. The page of the part has no price field.
Open a colour or material. In the Pricing (optional) section, choose one option:
-
None — the colour or material adds no cost.
-
Base Price — adds a flat amount when the customer selects it.
-
Price Multiplier — multiplies the price of the sign. Choose the target: Letter Price Only or Final Price (includes additional costs from other options).
You can charge different amounts for different colours or materials on each part. For example:
-
A brushed stainless steel face can cost more than a standard acrylic face.
-
A gold chrome side finish can cost more than a matte black side finish.
These levels can add to the price of a sign:
-
Core Setup → Pricing — the pricing settings of your customiser.
-
Letter Type — the Additional Pricing (optional) card on the Letter Type page. It adds a flat amount, or multiplies the price, when the customer selects that Letter Type.
-
Colour or material — the Pricing (optional) section, as described above.
-
Mountings — the Additional Pricing (optional) card on each mounting.
