Font min heights and rounding measurements
Last updated:
Note: The Minimum height of font letters fields, the Min Height table columns and the per-word minimum height check apply to Advanced Letter customisers only. The Decimal Format of Measurements setting applies to all customisers. The Decimal values detected warning can show on any pricing model.
The Decimal Format of Measurements setting changes how your customiser shows sizes. On an Advanced Letter customiser, it also changes how the customiser checks the minimum height of a font. This article shows where to find the setting and what to set.
Set the decimal format
-
Open your customiser.
-
In the Customiser Menu, open Settings, then open General Settings.
-
Scroll down to Decimal Format of Measurements.
-
Select With Decimal (e.g. 29.80cm) or No Decimal (e.g. 30cm).

With No Decimal (e.g. 30cm), the customiser rounds each measurement to the nearest whole unit. A height of 10.30cm shows as 10cm. A height of 10.70cm shows as 11cm.

How the font minimum check works
Each font on an Advanced Letter customiser should have a minimum letter height. A word passes the check when one of these conditions is true:
-
The height that the customer sees reaches the minimum.
-
The exact height of the word reaches the minimum.
These examples use centimetres, a font with a minimum height of 10.16cm and No Decimal (e.g. 30cm):
-
A 10.30cm word shows as 10cm. It passes, because its exact height is more than 10.16cm.
-
A 10.10cm word shows as 10cm. It does not pass, because its exact height is less than 10.16cm. The customer sees a height of 10cm.
-
A 9.90cm word does not pass.
Rounding can also help a word pass. If the minimum is 10.80cm, a 10.70cm word shows as 11cm. It passes, because the shown height reaches the minimum.
If Measurement Unit is Inches and you select No Decimal (e.g. 30cm), customers see whole inches. If the unit of your Store is inches, use whole inches for your minimums.
Use whole numbers for font minimum heights
If you use No Decimal (e.g. 30cm), set the font minimum heights to whole numbers. The check then matches the height that the customer sees. If the minimum is 10cm, a word that shows 10cm passes. A word that shows 9cm does not pass.
-
In the Customiser Menu, open Core Setup, then open Fonts.
-
Open the font.
-
Find Minimum height of font letters.
-
Change Minimum Height of Smallest Letter and Minimum Height of Uppercase Letter to whole numbers.
-
Save the font.
These fields use the unit of your Store, for example cm or in.
The “Decimal values detected” warning
The Fonts page shows the Decimal values detected warning when both of these conditions are true:
-
Decimal Format of Measurements is No Decimal (e.g. 30cm).
-
At least one font has a decimal minimum height.

On an Advanced Letter customiser, the font table shows each minimum in the Min Height (smallest, cm) and Min Height (uppercase, cm) columns. The unit in these headers is the unit of your Store.
The warning says that the customiser rounds these values to whole numbers. It does not. The customiser keeps the exact value that you saved and uses it in the check. To remove the warning on a Store that uses centimetres, change the minimum heights to whole numbers. On a Store that uses inches, the customiser saves a whole-inch minimum as a decimal centimetre value. For example, 4 in is saved as 10.16cm. The warning stays for such a font. To remove the warning, select With Decimal (e.g. 29.80cm).
The warning can also show on other pricing models if a font has a decimal minimum height. Only Advanced Letter customisers run the per-word minimum height check.
