Frame Fit Model
Last updated:
Frame Fit lets customers choose a sign width and height. For a Lightbox, customers also choose a depth. A size boundary sets the sign’s base price. You can add component and mounting charges. A separate parcel calculation can add a shipping charge. It can also send weight to Shopify.
Open Frame Fit pricing
To create a Frame Fit customiser, select Customisers → Create customiser. Choose the sign type. On the Pricing step, select Price per square meter/foot (badge: Frame Fit).
Neon Letter, Channel Letter and Wood Letter signs offer this choice. Lightbox, Aluminium, Braille, Metal Cut-Out and Wood Frame signs always use Frame Fit, so the Pricing step does not show.

To open an existing Frame Fit customiser, select Customiser Menu → Core Setup → Pricing, then select a pricing to open it. In the Universal admin, the address of the Pricing page ends with /lengthPricing. It follows the customiser ID, for example /app/customisers/123/lengthPricing. In the pricing, find the section Sign Dimension Pricing - (Shipping Unit Pricing). In this section, select Flat parcel or Volumetric parcel.
Check the Store units first
In the Universal admin, select Your Store → Store Settings and find Admin Settings. In the Shopify-embedded admin, select Home → Menu → Tools & Settings → Store Settings and find Admin Settings.

-
Measurement Unit: select Centimetres or Inches. You use this unit to enter sizes in the admin.
-
Weight Unit: select Kilograms or Pounds. You use this unit for weight-based rates.
New pricing uses these units. An existing divisor can keep its original number and unit.
To change a unit, select the new unit. Then select Review changes. The Change the Store units dialogue shows which values convert. Select Change units to confirm. The app does not rewrite any value.
How Frame Fit calculates a price
Frame Fit selects a size boundary from the customer’s width and height. For a Lightbox with a Volumetric parcel, the depth also selects the boundary. The boundary’s Sign Start Price - (Optional) is the sign’s starting price. Component and mounting charges can add to it. Text can change without a per-letter charge from Frame Fit.
For Flat parcel, the shipping calculation is sign width × sign height × rate per square length unit. The Store’s length unit decides if the area and rate use cm² or in².
For Volumetric parcel, the app calculates the parcel weight first. For a sign other than a Lightbox:
(sign width + Width Packaging Allowance) × (sign height + Height Packaging Allowance) × Fixed Sign Depth ÷ Volumetric divisor = parcel weight
For a Lightbox, use the depth that the customer enters plus Depth Packaging Allowance. This replaces Fixed Sign Depth. With a Volumetric parcel, Maximum Depth is the depth limit that selects the size boundary. Multiply the parcel weight by the rate per kg or per lb. The result is the shipping price. This price is separate from the sign’s starting price.
The Store settings support four divisor units.
Store length and weight | New divisor unit | Starting value |
cm and kg | cm³/kg | 5000 |
in and lb | in³/lb | 139 |
cm and lb | cm³/lb | 2268 |
in and kg | in³/kg | 305 |
The 305 in³/kg value is derived from the 5000 cm³/kg value. It is not a carrier quote. Use the divisor that your shipping carrier gives you. An existing divisor can keep its entered unit after you change the Store settings. Read its full unit before you edit it.
Worked example: centimetres and kilograms
This example uses a non-Lightbox sign, a 5000 cm³/kg divisor and a Store with Measurement Unit Centimetres, Weight Unit Kilograms and the £ currency. Other Stores see their own currency symbol and amounts.
-
In Sign Dimension Pricing - (Shipping Unit Pricing), select Volumetric parcel. If Add weight to product instead of calculating price appears and is selected, clear it. Open a size boundary. Enter 10 cm in Fixed Sign Depth. Under Packaging Allowances - (Optional), enter 10 cm in Width Packaging Allowance and 10 cm in Height Packaging Allowance.
-
The sign is 40 cm wide and 20 cm high. The parcel is 50 × 30 × 10 cm.
-
Parcel volume is 50 × 30 × 10 = 15,000 cm³.
-
Parcel weight is 15,000 ÷ 5000 = 3.00 kg.
-
Enter 4.00 in Cost per kg. Shipping is 3.00 × £4.00 = £12.00.
To check the result, select Preview in the page header. Then select Price in the preview toolbar. The price breakdown shows these values:
-
Volumetric Divisor: 5000 cm³/kg.
-
Volumetric Weight: 3.00 kg.
-
Charge: the weight, the rate and the shipping charge of £12.00.
Worked example: inches and pounds
This example uses a non-Lightbox sign, a 139 in³/lb divisor and a Store with Measurement Unit Inches, Weight Unit Pounds and the £ currency. Other Stores see their own currency symbol and amounts.
-
In Sign Dimension Pricing - (Shipping Unit Pricing), select Volumetric parcel. If Add weight to product instead of calculating price appears and is selected, clear it. Open a size boundary. Enter 10 in in Fixed Sign Depth. Enter 2 in in Width Packaging Allowance and 2 in in Height Packaging Allowance.
-
The sign is 8 in wide and 8 in high. The parcel is 10 × 10 × 10 in.
-
Parcel volume is 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000 in³.
-
Parcel weight is about 7.19 lb, which is
1000 ÷ 139. -
Enter 1.00 in Cost per lb. After you save the pricing, the price breakdown shows shipping of about £7.19.
The price breakdown shows the Volumetric Divisor as 139 in³/lb. The app stores 139 in³/lb as 5022 cm³/kg. An older divisor can have a different stored value. The breakdown for an older divisor can show a different weight or charge from these figures.
Depth and Shopify options
For non-Lightbox volumetric pricing, each size boundary can use any Fixed Sign Depth above zero. For Lightbox pricing with more than one size boundary, every Maximum Depth must be above zero. Each later boundary must have a greater depth. Add Depth Packaging Allowance if the parcel needs more space.
Select Add weight to product instead of calculating price to add the calculated weight to the Shopify product. The admin describes this as letting Shopify calculate the shipping price. When Volumetric parcel is selected, this option shows for Shopify Stores. It also shows for a Store that has at least one enabled integration when all its enabled integrations are Shopify. Sign Customiser prices shipping for other Stores. When you select the option, the customiser adds no volumetric shipping charge to the product price.
Shopify receives kilograms. Shopify receives pounds when your Store’s Weight Unit is Pounds. Check Weight sent to Shopify on the generated product details.
Set the centimetres, inches or both that customers see under Settings → General Settings → Measurement Unit. The price breakdown uses the Store’s length and weight settings for its volume, weight and rate labels.
